Tony Awards set 2020 ceremony date for Sept. 26
The Tony Awards will take place in the fall, two weeks after Broadway theatres reopen.
The ceremony date for the 2020 Tony Awards has been confirmed. The 2020 Tony Awards will take place on September 26, and will also be available to stream live and on demand. Find out all the nominees for the 2020 Tony Awards here. For this year's ceremony, a streaming event will also take place to celebrate nationwide theatre that has taken place throughout the pandemic.
The 2020 Tony Awards will take place at the Winter Garden Theatre. Later this year, the Winter Garden Theatre will be home to the Broadway revival of The Music Man, starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.
"After this devastating past year and a half for our industry, our city and for the entire world, we are excited to finally be able to celebrate the return of Broadway, our Tony Award nominees and winners in this new and exciting format," said Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, President and CEO of the American Theatre Wing.
The 74th Tony Awards will be awarded on 26 September at 7:00pm ET. 18 shows were eligible for the 2020 Tony Awards, with Slave Play, Moulin Rouge!, Jagged Little Pill, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, and The Inheritance receiving the most nominations.
Following the Tony Awards ceremony, a concert event will celebrate the joy of live theatre. The Tony Awards Present: Broadway's Back! will feature Tony Award-winning performers, as well as presentations from the 2020 Tony Awards winners.
