Bold new American play Thoughts of a Colored Man arrives on Broadway at the Golden Theatre. Keenan Scott II's thrilling drama celebrates the mosaic of Black life through a unique combination of dance, music, spoken word, and slam poetry. Thoughts of a Colored Man tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.
Over a single day in Brooklyn, the lives of seven Black men intersect. By the day's end, each man will discover the extraordinary. Keenan Scott II's richly textured new drama paints a broad, all-encompassing picture of Black life in America today, looking deep into the hearts of men across the socio-political spectrum who are all searching for their most triumphant selves. In their hopes, dreams and fears lie the hopes, dreams and fears of all men, and all people.
Syracuse Stage presented the world premiere of Thoughts of a Colored Man in September 2019, produced in association with Baltimore Center Stage. The same production then continued to Baltimore in October 2019. Now this deeply human new work arrives home in New York City.
Playwright Keenan Scott II makes his Broadway debut with a work that William Powell of DC Metro Theater Arts declared "outstanding." Powell went on to write: "the show is both narrative and poetry, depressive and comic, without being preachy....all races and sexes can relate to the emotions displayed on stage." Sunny Hernandez of Syracuse.com agreed that the play "sizzled" in a production "worth seeing again and again."
Director Steve H. Broadnax III also makes his Broadway debut with Thoughts of a Colored Man. Craig Thornton at NYTV wrote that Thoughts of a Colored Man is "expertly directed" by Broadnax III in a "brisk production that is both moving and entertaining."
