Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren stars in Room, the Broadway stage adaptation of Emma Donoghue's bestselling novel and award-winning film. Room Broadway tickets will be available soon. Check back for information on Room tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
Room on Broadway, like the book and film, centers on Ma, a woman kidnapped as a teenager. She is held captive in a single room, where she bears a son who knows nothing of the world outside. He exists happily alongside his loving mother and the Rug, Lamp, and TV he calls friends, but after seven years, Ma is ready to escape. But reentering life outside Room comes with its own challenges.
Donoghue's story is partly inspired by a real-life kidnapping case concerning a young woman who had children while imprisoned. She published the Room book in 2010, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Governor General's Awards, and Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize.
Donoghue adapted her book into the screenplay for a 2015 film starring Brie Larson as Ma. Larson won the Oscar for Best Actress, and the movie received three additional nominations: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Director (for Lenny Abrahamson).
Two years later, Donoghue again adapted her story, this time for the stage, and the Room play premiered in London in 2017. The stage show is a play with music, featuring songs by Scottish songwriters Kathryn Joseph and Cora Bissett. Bissett, an Olivier Award winner, also directs.
Adrienne Warren stars in Room in New York, marking her first return to Broadway since winning the Best Leading Actress Tony Award for Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. She is also known for her performances in Bring It On and Shuffle Along on Broadway, and for starring in Women of the Movement and The Woman King on screen.
