Raised in Transylvania, but resurrected in New York City: Dracula is back-ula, and this time he’s coming not just for blood, but your funny bone, in this spoof on the classic Bram Stoker Gothic novel. The new Off-Broadway comedy Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors comes at you like a bat out of hell: there's gender-bending, quick-changing, and laugh-til-you-cry (or bleed?) gags that give this Dracula a contemporary edge — and bite. With pop culture references aplenty, the Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors play follows the original mothersucker, who is single and ready to mingle. He meets his scaredy-cat English realtor in Transylvania, and a harrowing journey follows, but Count Dracula is also on a determined mission to find love. This Dracula has fangs of fury and abs of steel, after all, but can sharpshooting female vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing and her quirky team stop him?
The quest takes the fanged phenom to the British countryside, London, and back again, with all the excitement keeping your blood pumping — but in your necks, right where it belongs.
Gordon Greenberg (director of Guys & Dolls in the West End starring Rebel Wilson) and Steve Rosen (a five-time Drama Desk Award nominee) co-created this spooky new comedy, with Greenberg directing Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors off Broadway at New World Stages. The one-act play boasts a busy cast of five, including James Daly as Count Dracula and Jordan Boatman, Arnie Burtman, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, and Ellen Harvey as an ensemble swapping costumes and parts faster than you can say, “I vant to suck your blood.”
