The Seven Year Disappear off Broadway follows Naphtali (Trensch), whose mother, a renowned performance artist (Nixon), vanished seven years ago. Despite her absence, Naphtali feels her influence around him. When his mother returns with few explanations and a significant request, Naphtali is forced to confront memories he has long suppressed. This funny and thought-provoking play explores mother-son relationships, the challenges of growing up, and the unraveling of family dynamics.
Cynthia Nixon, acclaimed for her roles in TV series like Sex and the City, The Gilded Age, and And Just Like That…, makes a return to The New Group, having previously directed Rasheeda Speaking and Steve. Nixon also appeared on stage in The New Group’s The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie under Elliott's direction.
Taylor Trensch is notably known for his Broadway performances in shows such as Camelot, Dear Evan Hansen, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and Hello, Dolly!, among others.
Trensch now makes his New Group debut alongside Seavey. The playwright’s works include Homos, or Everyone in America ( Obie Award winner), November 4th 2008, and Wight, among others, and he has participated in multiple prestigious programs for young writers, including The Public Theater’s Emerging Writer’s Group, the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, and Primary Stages’ American Writers Group.
