About Dead Outlaw

Take a wild Western ride at Dead Outlaw on Broadway, an award-winning musical featuring a hit-making creative team and a true story you almost won't believe. Get Dead Outlaw tickets and watch the tale of an infamous corpse come to life.

Dead Outlaw uses a rousing folk-rock score to trace the colorful life of of an infamous American criminal named Elmer McCurdy. Don’t know who he is? You’ll be shocked by the details: A bank and train robber, McCurdy was a turn-of-the-century outlaw whose body was mummified after his untimely death in 1911, put on display at an Oklahoma funeral home, and turned into a fixture on the traveling carnival and sideshow circuit for the next six decades. It's a legend that's dying to be told.

Still, it might seem like an unusual musical concept, but Dead Outlaw won four Best Musical prizes upon its 2024 world premiere off Broadway with Audible Theater. Behind the show is the creative team of the 10-time Tony Award-winning musical The Band's Visit: Director David Cromer, book writer Itamar Moses, and co-composer/lyricist David Yazbek, newly working together with Erik Della Penna.

Buckle up for a thrilling journey through a century of little-known American history. Dead Outlaw tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide.
