About Yellow Face

Get Yellow Face tickets to see TV star Daniel Dae Kim in this uproarious comedy from Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang. Tony Award nominee Leigh Silverman (Violet, Suffs) directs this play, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, about identity, show biz, and autobiography. Get Yellow Face tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

Experience Yellow Face on Broadway at Roundabout Theatre Company and see the star of Lost, Hawaii Five-O, Angel, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Raya and the Last Dragon perform in the leading role of Hwang’s acclaimed play. Kim is most known for his TV credits, but he’s starred on the New York stage before: in 2016, he appeared as the King of Siam in The King and I at Lincoln Center. Now, he returns to New York in the Broadway premiere of Hwang’s hilarious play.

Inspired by real events, Yellow Face follows one Asian-American artist protesting the yellow face casting of the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon to his success as a playwright…only to mistakenly cast a white actor in an Asian role in his own play. A farce about the complexities of race, Yellow Face has won an Obie Award and is a laugh-out-loud riot.

Hwang won a Tony Award for his play M. Butterfly, and now he returns to Broadway with this revival of his 2007 play, which only gets more and more topical. Exploring the intersection of politics, media, and cultural perception, Yellow Face is, in some ways, a memoir — a very funny memoir — of Hwang’s early career. Meta-theatrical, the play follows the lead character, named “DHH,” who is mounting Hwang’s earlier production, Face Value, which was a critical failure, inspired Yellow Face, and featured Jane Krakowski… who is also a character in this play.

Comedy and complexities abound, and tickets to Yellow Face are available on New York Theatre Guide now.
