The new musical The Connector, with music by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, makes its world premiere at New York's MCC Theater in January 2024. See Golden Globe winner Scott Bakula (star of sci-fi TV staples Quantum Leap and Star Trek: Enterprise), return to the New York stage as the editor-in-chief of The Connector, a struggling news magazine. There, two young journalists' paths diverge amid the swiftly changing media landscape. Get The Connector tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
Head to Off-Broadway’s MCC Theater and be one of the first to see this new work by the Broadway legend behind Parade and The Last Five Years. Alongside Bakula, back on the New York stage for the first time in more than 30 years, audiences will get to see Brown conducting each performance live. Adding to this stacked talent roster is conceiver/director Daisy Prince, daughter of the legendary, record-setting director/producer Harold Prince. These creatives, plus bookwriter Jonathan Marc Sherman, make The Connector a musical worthy of the front page.
In the late 1990s, we meet promising journalist Ethan Dobson and assistant copy editor Robin Martinez at the esteemed (fictional) publication The Connector. Struggling to survive amid an acquisition by a larger corporation and the dawn of the new millennium, some journalists face the ultimatum of adapting or being left behind in the competitive, ever-changing industry. Ethan's relentless pursuit of success challenges his ethical boundaries in search of the perfect story, while Robin considers how far she will go to rein him in.
Composer Jason Robert Brown has made quite a mark on the theatre scene over the last 20 years. Brown first became known for his song cycle Songs for a New World in 1995. His follow-up, the 1998 Broadway musical Parade, chronicled the true story of Leo Frank's trial, imprisonment, and lynching in 1913-1915 Georgia. The Broadway premiere earned two Tony Awards, including Best Original Score for Brown, and the 2023 revival won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical. Later, he became known for the cult classic The Last Five Years, which itself inspired a Hollywood movie, starring Jeremy Jordan and Ann Kendrick.
