About Hold Me in the Water

Get Hold Me in the Water tickets on New York Theatre Guide and see the newest solo play from Obie Award winner Ryan J. Haddad. Hold Me in the Water plays for a limited run at Playwrights Horizons’ Judy Theater and is directed by Danny Sharon. Following up on his acclaimed Dark Disabled Stories, Haddad offers audiences a new story about where disability and sexual vulnerability overlap.

In Hold Me in the Water off Broadway, Ryan falls hard for a man he just met. He’s ready for the romance of his dreams, however as their connection grows, Ryan learns that new joyful highs can also come with stinging insecurities, worries, and questions. Fearlessly vulnerable and playfully provocative, Hold Me in the Water is an unforgettable, funny, and tender solo play about deep passion and first love.

Haddad has been charming audiences and critics over the past few years, so a new solo play is highly anticipated. Theatermania said, “Haddad is a comedic genius; with his sly grin, playful inflections, and flirtatious gestures, he always manages to secure a laugh from the audience.”

Further raving, The New York Times said, “Haddad is an actor and writer of extraordinary charm. Disarmingly witty, immensely likable — he will make you laugh.”

Haddad is more than an artist; he is also an accessibility advocate. Increasing accessibility, components of relaxed performance and integrated access will be present at every performance of Hold Me in the Water. Some elements of relaxed performance and integrated access at every performance include the house lights on dim instead of full blackout, open captioning, and more.

Haddad received the Drama Desk’s 2023 Sam Norkin Off-Broadway Award, Vineyard Theatre’s 2021 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, and a 2020 Disability Futures Fellowship.
