Get Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see this new musical from Jason Robert Brown and Taylor Mac. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil the musical comes to New York following its celebrated Chicago bow at the Goodman. There, the Chicago Tribune said the show is “filled with enough thrilling musical ideas for three musicals.”
Now, Brown (a Tony Award winner for Parade) and Mac (a Pulitzer Prize finalist for A 24-Decade History of Popular Music) team up to adapt John Berendt’s Pulitzer finalist non-fiction book, which also inspired a 1997 film, for the stage.
Experience Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil on Broadway and be transported to the South: in this new musical, Savannah, Georgia is the backdrop for Southern charm, hospitality, and secrets. After a murder, a wealthy antiques dealer, Jim Williams, is accused, sparking a sensational trial that uncovers hidden truths and exposes the fine line between good and evil. Soon, Lady Chablis and other Savannahians will change the city forever.
Composer Brown is no stranger to writing about Southern life — Parade made him a musical theatre icon — and bookwriter Mac has the wit and spellbinding sensibility to bring this story to life. It is such a feat, even the original author approves.
“When I took my seat at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago last July to watch, for the first time, a full production of the Midnight musical, I had pen and notebook in hand, poised to jot down comments in the dark,” said Berendt in a statement. “After 20 minutes I realized I hadn't written a word. I'd been captivated by Jason Robert Brown's imaginative score and Taylor Mac's ingenious rendering of the (admittedly) complicated 388-page book.”
The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Frozen) with choreography by Tanya Birl-Torres. Tickets to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil in New York will be available soon.
