Daniel Breaker, Merle Dandridge to join 'Hadestown' Broadway cast
The Tony Award nominee and the Grammy Award nominee will step into the eight-time Tony-winning musical at the Walter Kerr Theater beginning in February.
They're going way down Hadestown! Daniel Breaker and Merle Dandridge will join the cast of Hadestown on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre beginning February 18.
Breaker is an Obie Award winner and Tony Award nominee for his performance in the musical Passing Strange, in which he appeared both on and off Broadway. Most recently, he played the Jester in Once Upon a Mattress, and additional Broadway roles include Donkey in Shrek: The Musical, Mafala Hatimbi in The Book of Mormon, and Aaron Burr in Hamilton.
Dandridge most recently appeared on Broadway in Once on This Island, becoming the first woman to play the role of the god Papa Ge in the production. She and her co-stars were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. She is also known for playing Marlene in the TV series The Last of Us and the video game it is adapted from, and for appearing in The Flight Attendant, for which she was nominated for a SAG Award.
In Hadestown, Breaker and Dandridge will step into the roles of Hermes and Persephone, respectively. They will replace current cast members Lillias White and Allison Russell, who play their final performances on February 16.
Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, creator Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown gives Greek mythology a fresh twist with folk and jazz music. When the musician Orpheus loses his love, Eurydice, he takes a dangerous trip to a dark underworld called Hadestown and must convince a powerful god to set her free.
