Typically, the Tony Awards take place in June of each year, marking the end of each theatre year in the calendar. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this year's awards were postponed, and a ceremony date has not been confirmed. However, the Tony Awards ceremony will be scheduled in return with the reopening of Broadway, so it's possible a fall 2021 date is on the cards.
The Tony Award voting will take place on the first anniversary of the shutdown of all Broadway theaters, which took place on March 12. This means that fewer productions were eligible to be nominated; 18 productions were up for awards.
Jagged Little Pill received 15 nominations, while Moulin Rouge! The Musical picked up 14 nominations, with Aaron Tveit being the only actor nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. Slave Play picked up 12 nominations, with more information about all shows nominated for the 2020 Tony Award shows here.
