Lena Dunham, Carly Rae Jepsen writing '10 Things I Hate About You' musical for Broadway
The musician and the actor are among the creative team for this stage adaptation of the romantic comedy film starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger.
There's nothing we hate about this! 10 Things I Hate About You is being developed into a musical for Broadway.
The musical will feature a score by Grammy-nominated singer Carly Rae Jepsen and Ethan Gruska, a book by Girls creator Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang, and direction and choreography by Christopher Wheeldon (MJ The Musical). Music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements are by Tom Kitt.
Released in 1999, 10 Things I Hate About You is a romantic comedy adapted from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger star as reluctant high school lovebirds Kat and Patrick, set up by Kat's younger sister Bianca so she can get their father's approval to date her own crush, Cameron. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, and Alison Janney also starred.
Since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has been included in Entertainment Weekly’s list of the "Best High School Movies of All Time," and Ledger’s performance of the classic song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” has become an iconic moment from the film.
Further details about 10 Things I Hate About You on Broadway have yet to be announced.
