Donna Herman is a native New Yorker who grew up backstage and in empty theaters while her parents worked. Her mother was an actress and her father a make-up artist and playwright. It was on location for the filming of the Officer Krupke scene from "West Side Story" when she was 4 years old, where her father was doing make-up, that she decided she wanted to be an actress. She acted all throughout her childhood, both in school and in the community. Then she attended Boston University's School of Fine Arts Theater Department, where she studied acting and directing.
After graduating, Donna returned to NYC and began the life of a struggling actress. She had the great good fortune of originating the role of Chang in John Jesurun's serial play "Chang In A Void Moon" which became a cult classic, performing a new episode every Monday for almost a year at The Pyramid Club on Avenue A. Many downtown luminaries created roles in the off-kilter comedy, including Steve Buscemi, John Kelly, Black-Eyed Susan, David Cale, Greg Mehrten, and Anna Kohler to name a few.
During this period, Donna worked in recording studios to make money and wound up managing Spyro Gyra's recording studio Bear Tracks when Julian Lennon recorded his first album there. She was hired away by the production company who filmed his first concert tour in support of the album, to be the Production Coordinator for the film. Following a stint with the production company, she went to work for the audio post production facility that did the work on that film, Sync Sound, and ended up as their Controller. From Sync Sound, Donna went to Charlex, Inc. as their CFO. Charlex is a special effects & design atelier for the advertising industry.
Throughout her life, theater has been her first love. Donna is working on reinventing herself in a more creative direction and is now reviewing theater and designing jewellery.
