Tom Millward

Thomas Hayden Millward served as Editor of the New York Theatre Guide from March 2014 through May 2020.

He was born on February 15, 1982 in Bolton - a town located just to the west of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He attended Bolton Grammar School (which is also coincidentally the school of his favorite actor, Sir Ian McKellen) and ultimately majored in Art, French and German. In 2000, his love for modern languages and drama led to a successful application at the University of Bristol in England, where he studied Theatre, Film & Television with German.

He graduated in the summer of 2004, having spent three years in Bristol and a year abroad in Munich. He returned to Germany a short time later and pursued a career in Berlin's television production industry. Over the next four years, he worked his way up from trainee to assistant producer positions for a variety of companies, including VIVA, All3Media and Discovery Channel, but spent the majority of his tenure at MTV.

At MTV Networks, his primary responsibility was to produce music-based documentaries, focusing on the high profile lives and careers of the international music industry's greatest stars, including Tupac Shakur, Linkin Park, Depeche Mode and 50 Cent. He also produced documentaries about various genres of music and interviewed associated artists such as Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo for "A Basic Course in R&B" or The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Korn and Foo Fighters for "A Basic Course in Rock".

Tom had been inspired by theatre productions in his youth, particularly shows at Manchester's Palace Theatre and Opera House and Bolton's Octagon Theatre, and was once again captivated by the productions on offer by leading European company Stage Entertainment in Berlin. He returned to the UK in November 2008 and decided to switch gears and move from television into the theatre industry. His decision to move to London and immerse himself in the West End theatre scene proved to be a life-changing one. He initially worked in sales for the Society of London Theatre (the UK's equivalent of The Broadway League), where he was also fortunate enough to work at some of the top events of London's theatrical calendar such as West End Live! and the Olivier Awards.

He considered it a true privilege to serve as Editor for the New York Theatre Guide for over six years and become just a small part of the fantastic Broadway community.
